While developing a winning habit and mentality is important, winning must not be to the detriment of fundamental skill development of all players involved. An over emphasis on winning in juvenile coaching can hugely affect player development and give rise to all kinds of negative thoughts and behaviours.

In our club the order of priority at underage will be: ‘Player Development First, Winning Second’

The coach must also keep the emphasis on participation and enjoyment and be conscious to keep everyone involved.
